There are facials. And then there is Kobido.

If you've been in Bangkok long enough, you know the wellness scene here is serious. The spas are exceptional. The treatments go deeper than anything you'd find in Paris or London. But Kobido is in a category of its own and most women who haven't tried it yet don't fully understand what they're missing.

I found the place. Here's everything you need to know.

What Is Kobido, Exactly?

Kobido (古美道) means "ancient way of beauty" in Japanese. It was developed in 15th-century Japan, originally for samurai, then refined into an exclusive ritual for royalty and the imperial court. Today it is one of the most sophisticated manual facial treatments in the world.

What makes it different from a regular facial massage is precision. Kobido works at three levels simultaneously: muscular, circulatory, and lymphatic. In practice, that means your face is being lifted, sculpted, drained, and oxygenated all without a single needle, filler, or machine.

The results are visible from the first session. That is not marketing. That is just what happens when someone who truly knows what they are doing works on your face for 75 minutes.

Why Bangkok Is the Right Place to Try It

Bangkok has fully embraced Japanese and holistic beauty techniques in a way that most Western cities haven't caught up to yet. The wellness studios in Phrom Phong, Ekkamai, and Thong Lo are running circles around what you'd find in most European capitals at a fraction of the price.

Kobido specifically has grown here because the city's wellness-conscious women are done with Botox. They want results that don't freeze their face. They want something that works with the skin, not against it.

Maison Ysaé

Maison Ysaé is one of the very few studios in Bangkok doing authentic Kobido. Not a watered-down version. Not Kobido as an add-on to a standard facial. The real thing.

Founded in Bangkok, the studio was built around one philosophy: sculpt your face, shape your body. Ancient Japanese Kobido technique meets French sculpting massage two of the most refined manual facial traditions in the world, combined under one roof.

They have two locations, Sukhumvit 31 (their main studio, with private cabins, a Facial Bar, and L'Appartement upstairs for a more intimate experience) and Gaysorn Amarin on the 3rd floor, their newest and most accessible space. Both are thoughtfully designed calm, minimal, intentional. Nothing like the typical Bangkok spa aesthetic. More like a Parisian wellness studio that landed in Phrom Phong.

They have recently expanded to Dubai which tells you everything about the trajectory of this brand.

The Treatments Worth Knowing

Glow Booster — their signature Kobido treatment. Targets aging signs to stimulate collagen production and enhance elasticity. Uses specific massage tools: Ball, Ridoki, and Cryostick. Available at the Facial Bar (45 min / ฿1,800) or in a private cabin (75 min / ฿3,600).

Sculpt & Lift — focuses on drainage, reducing puffiness and sculpting facial contours for immediate firming. Tools: Guasha and Boulado. Same pricing structure.

My's Signature — the one to book for your first time. A combination of both Kobido and sculpting techniques for immediate lifting and visibly regenerated skin. All massage tools included. 60 min at the Facial Bar or 90 min in private cabin (฿2,400 / ฿4,300).

If it's your first visit, book the private cabin. The experience is different quieter, more intimate, more time on the table.

What Actually Happens During a Session

The treatment begins with a light cleanse. Then your therapist works through a precise sequence, deep tissue kneading, acupressure on facial meridian points, lymphatic drainage strokes, rapid tapping and percussion, gentle pinching along the cheekbones and jaw.

The tapping is the part that surprises people. It is fast, rhythmic, and oddly meditative. Many clients fall asleep. Most leave looking like they've had eight hours of sleep and a very good week.

What you will notice immediately: your face is less puffy. The jawline is more defined. The skin has a glow that isn't from product it is from circulation. It looks like you. Just more so.

Who This Is For

If you are the kind of woman who travels intentionally, takes her skincare seriously, and prefers treatments that work with her body rather than altering it this is for you.

Kobido is not a luxury indulgence. It is maintenance. It is the kind of thing you do regularly, like working out, because it compounds over time. The more consistent you are, the better your skin holds its structure.

At ฿1,800 for a 45-minute session, it is also one of the most accessible high-performance facials in the city.
